Pura Agung Besakih, located on the slopes of Mount Agung (Giri Toh Langkir), in Manik Mas Village, Rendang District, Karangasem Regency, is a complex of buildings symbolizing the unity of the Balinese Hindu community. The physical structure is not only considered the largest Hindu place of worship in Bali and Indonesia, but is also associated with Mount Agung, which is believed to possess supernatural powers that must be worshipped and preserved by the Balinese people.

The Tirta Empul Holy Water Temple is located in Manukaya Village, near Tampaksiring City, not far from Ubud, in Gianyar Regency, Bali’s cultural center. It sits directly below the Tampaksiring Presidential Palace. Tirta Empul, one of the busiest water temples in Indonesia, is considered sacred by Balinese Hindus. It boasts several holy springs. In Balinese, “Tirta Empul” literally means “water gushing from the earth.”

Primarily serving as a Hindu prayer site, Tirta Empul Temple is often visited for the traditional “Melukat” process, a process of self-purification using Tirta Empul’s holy water. The Melukat process is open to non-Hindu tourists.

Tirta Empul is a fairly large temple complex, and it takes at least 30 minutes to an hour to explore the entire area. As with other temples and sacred sites around the island, you are required to wear a sarong before entering the area.

Tirta Gangga is a former royal palace located in the eastern part of Bali, Indonesia, about 5 kilometers from Karangasem, near Mount Agung. The park is famous for its water palace, owned by the Karangasem Kingdom. Tirta Gangga literally means water from the Ganges River, a tribute to the Balinese Hindu community. The name refers to the water palace built in 1948 by the King of Karangasem, Anak Agung Anglurah Ketut Karangasem Agung.

The Tirta Gangga Water Palace is a labyrinth of pools and fountains surrounded by lush gardens and statues. The one-hectare complex was built in 1946 by the late King of Karangasem but was almost completely destroyed by the eruption of Mount Agung in 1963.[1] It was subsequently rebuilt and restored. The area around Tirta Gangga is famous for its rice terraces.
